Italy's Halloween capital

Corinaldo has built an identity around Halloween unmatched anywhere in Italy: the Festa delle Streghe celebrated its 25th edition in 2025, and the town was named first Italy's Halloween capital and then the festival's best European destination. For a few days one of Italy's most beautiful villages — with nearly a kilometre of intact medieval walls — transforms completely.

The programme revolves around the Tunnel della Paura, shows and workshops for children, markets, taverns with DJ sets and concerts, with Zucchino, the mascot, tying it all together. In 2025 the festival ran on 24, 25, 26 and 31 October: the 2026 dates have not yet been published, so check the official programme as autumn approaches.

Corinaldo is a small hilltop village with few beds, all taken well in advance. Senigallia is the practical base: 30 minutes by car, and in late October it's off-season, so there's availability at the lowest prices of the year. In 2026 the 31st of October falls on a Saturday and All Saints' Day is the Sunday: two full days without taking leave.

«Corinaldo in late October is a medieval village in costume: the walls stay fifteenth-century, everything else becomes something else entirely for four days.»
