From the coast to Apennine gorges in under an hour: the Marche is one of Italian bikers' favourite regions, and Senigallia is the ideal starting point.
The Marche is built for motorcycling: within a few kilometres you go from seafront to hills, and in under an hour you reach some of the roads most loved by Italian riders. From Senigallia, with the sea on one side and the Apennines on the other, very different itineraries open up — from the Furlo Gorge, among Italy's most photographed roads, to the hairpins climbing towards San Marino.
Each route has its own character: the wide, panoramic curves of the Conero Riviera, the tight up-and-down roads between the hilltop villages inland, or the Roman tunnel cut into the rock at the Furlo Gorge. Distances are manageable — most rides can be done in half a day, leaving the rest for the beach or the old town.

The Via Flaminia state road runs through the Furlo Gorge, a nature reserve carved by the Candigliano river, with the famous tunnel cut by the Romans in 77 AD. Continuous curves between sheer rock walls: one of Italian bikers' favourite roads, with a recommended stop in Fossombrone or Acqualagna.
Through the Esino valley, between Genga and Sassoferrato, the road climbs through hills and villages to one of Europe's most spectacular karst cave systems. Wide curves and scenery that shifts fast, from the valley floor to the limestone walls of Monte Frasassi.
A short loop through the hills of the Cesano valley: from Senigallia to Corinaldo, one of Italy's most beautiful villages with its intact 15th-century walls, then on towards Arcevia and Serra de' Conti. Narrow secondary roads, constant up-and-down, ideal for a half-day ride without straying too far from the sea.
South along the coast to the Conero promontory: past Ancona, the panoramic road climbs through Mediterranean scrub and sheer drops to the sea, passing Portonovo, Sirolo and Numana. Mid-slope curves with the blue Adriatic always in view — one of the most scenic stretches of coast in the Marche.
The classic day trip: up the coast north to Rimini, then inland to the Republic of San Marino, perched on Monte Titano at over 700 metres. Hairpin bends on the final stretch and views over the Romagna Riviera from the three towers.
